Carrick Ends 15-Year Man Utd Stay
Michael Carrick has decided to step down as Manchester United’s first team coach after spending 15 years at Old Trafford.
Following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last month, Carrick was named as an interim manager until the end of the 2021-22 season.
The former Red Devils’ midfielder enjoyed a successful three-game stint in this position, leading his side to wins over the Gunners and Villarreal, and a draw away to Chelsea.
However, immediately after a 3-2 victory over Arsenal, the club made the shocking announcement, confirming his departure from Man United as a player, caretaker and manager.
The 40-year-old English tactician says it was solely his decision to part ways with the club as he wants to spend time with his family.
He said: “It’s not been an easy decision to make, but I feel it’s the right one. I was meant to take some time off when I finished playing. I promised my family we’d have some time together and it hasn’t happened.”
German professional football manager, Ralf Rangnick, has been appointed as an interim coach.
